How can I improve overall performance in the game?
The following are a few suggestions that may free up system resources and improve performance:
- No other programs should be running in the background.
- System resources should be at least 85% free.
- There should be at least 200 MB of free hard disk space after installation.
In addition, STAR WARS™ Republic Commando will analyze your system’s capabilities and adjust the in-game Graphics Options to give you the best visual quality for performance. If you experience performance issues when running the game, we recommend that you lower the Graphics Quality setting to either Low or Lowest in the Graphics Options menu.
Choosing these Graphics Quality settings will adjust the following options:
Lowest
- Video Resolution = 640x480
- Texture Quality = Lowest
- Character Detail = Low
- Bumpmapping Quality = Low
- Blur Effects = Off
- Bloom Effects = None
- Projectors = Off
Low
- Video Resolution = 640x480
- Texture Quality = Low
- Character Detail = Medium
- Bumpmapping Quality = Medium
- Blur Effects = On
- Bloom Effects = Low
- Projectors = On
- Squad Shadows = Off
I am encountering general performance issues, crashes/lockups, or error messages when selecting 1280x960 or higher resolution settings. What can I do?
The game may crash to the desktop or display an error message when you attempt to start a game after changing resolutions in the Graphics Options menu. This occurs if your monitor or its driver does not support the resolution you selected. If this occurs, you may need to run the batch file RestoreDefaultSystemSettings.bat in the ...\STAR WARS™ Republic Commando\Gamedata\System folder before restarting the game. This will reset your in-game options to their default settings. You may need to select the correct driver for your monitor or install the Windows Plug and Play driver to select higher resolutions.
How do I view the Frames per Second rate?
To view the Frames per Second (FPS) open the in-game console (~) and enter in the following to display the FPS while playing the game: STAT FPS
I am experiencing frame rate issues in the game when running in 1280x960 or higher resolution.
Please select a lower resolution.
What Windows Desktop Color Palette settings should I set?
If you experience problems running the game, we recommend that you set your desktop Color Palette or Colors to True Color (32-bit). When running STAR WARS™ Republic Commando with your desktop set to a color palette other than 32-bit, some video cards may experience problems launching the game or you may see graphic corruption. In most cases, switching to True Color (32-bit) solves these problems.
Sound
How do I adjust the volume in the game?
To adjust the volume level:
- Press ESC to access the in-game menu. NOTE: If you are at the Main Menu, proceed to the following step.
- Select Options.
- Select Audio Options.
- Adjust the Master Volume, Music Volume, SFX Volume, or Speech Volume sliders.
Is 5.1 Surround sound supported in the game?
It is not. We suggest you use stereo mode while playing.
Is it possible to adjust volume control in the game using my keyboard or 3rd-party volume control program?
Some sound card and/or PC manufacturers may have proprietary software that must be adjusted separately from the Windows Volume Control, and some of the newer keyboards in the market allow you to adjust your Volume control directly on your keyboard. Please consult your hardware documentation or contact the appropriate manufacturer for further information.
Why do I keep hearing static or audio distortion in the game?
If you are hearing static in the game, your sound card may not be fully DirectX compatible. Follow the instructions here to determine whether DirectX supports your sound card.
Why isn't my sound card and display adapter listed in the System Analyzer?
The System Analyzer in the STAR WARS™ Republic Commando launcher requires DirectX 9.0c to properly detect and provide information regarding certain models of Sound Cards and Display Adapters. Because of this, your Sound Card or Display Adapter listing may not be displayed until you install DirectX 9.0c.
I cannot get subtitles to appear.
Subtitles will not display if the sound engine does not detect an audio device on your system. This will occur if your audio device is disabled, or there is no sound card on your system.
Configuration
Hosting Dedicated Servers Behind Firewalls or NATs
When hosting a dedicated server behind a Firewall or NAT, you may need to put your computer on the DMZ of your router or use port forwarding. The DMZ option is easier to set up than port forwarding, but it exposes your entire computer to the Internet. Your firewall cannot provide security on the DMZ; so placing a computer on the DMZ should only be done on a temporary basis.
How do I enable FSAA?
The Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) setting in STAR WARS™ Republic Commando is controlled by the in-game FSAA option. Because of this, configuring FSAA in the manufacturer Control Panel will have no effect on the game. You must set Vsync to On in the Graphics Options menu before the option to enable FSAA in the game will be accessible. After enabling VSync, you will then be able to choose from a list of supported FSAA modes.
How many mouse buttons does the game support?
STAR WARS™ Republic Commando natively supports 4 mouse buttons in the game. Mouse wheels are supported.
I am experiencing problems with my mouse cursor in the game.
When using custom Windows cursors, such as the 3D cursor, the game cursor may be discolored or corrupt in some areas on the game, especially in menus. Disabling this feature corrects this issue.
I am getting a message, "CDKEY Not Authorized" or "Invalid key" when I try to join a multiplayer game.
If you receive an error that your CD Key is not authorized when attempting to join a multiplayer game, please exit the game and try the following to correct this issue.
Open My Computer and navigate to the Install folder inside the Republic Commando folder on your hard drive. The default install location is:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\STAR WARS™ Republic Commando\Install
Double-click the CDKey.exe file and reenter your CD Key printed on the inside of your Republic Commando CD Jewel case.
Now try joining a multiplayer game once more to see if the problem has been corrected.
I am getting disconnected from my multiplayer game after being online for a while.
If your ISP connection is set to automatically disconnect after a certain period of inactivity, you may be disconnected while playing the game. You should disable this option in your Internet Options on your Control Panel before playing the game to prevent being disconnected mid-game. You may be dropped from the game if you try to quickly reconnect after being disconnected from your ISP. This will happen if your ISP assigns you a new IP address, which causes the game to not recognize you as the same player. Restarting the game will resolve this situation.
Performance Issues with DSL Packages at less then 384KBps down and 128KBps up.
Users of low-cost DSL packages may experience significant lag while playing STAR WARS™ Republic Commando. These users may have experiences closer to Dial-up than Broadband. Please check with your ISP to determine how much bandwidth is guaranteed with your DSL service if you are experiencing these issues.
Should I be using the Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) and Anisotropic Filtering options for my graphics card with the game?
Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) and Anisotropic Filtering are considered advanced features, which require extra processing power and resources from your graphics cards. These features may adversely affect your frame rate if your video card does not have the power to render them. If you experience low frame rates with these features enabled, we recommend that you set Anti-Aliasing to Off in the Graphics Options menu, and disable Full Scene Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering in the Windows Display Properties.
Should I disable the Windows Power Management feature while playing the game?
If your computer is equipped with a Power Management feature, it is recommended that you disable it. More information can be found here.
When I Alt+Tab or task switch out of the program, I get a black or gray screen or the program does not function properly or crashes.
Alt+Tabbing out of graphically intense or DirectX-based games is not recommended.
When I try to start the game, I get a message, "Conflict with Disc Emulation Software detected." or "Wrong Volume in drive"
This error occurs when there is a conflict with the copy protection for the program and some disk emulation software installed and active on your system. You should temporarily disable any CD drive emulation software.(Alcohol 120%, CloneCD, Nero) The program will not run with emulation software running. Please turn off any emulation software (un-mount any virtual drives) and restart the system, then run the program.
If you would like to find out what there is on your computer that keeps the copy-protected application from starting although there is an original disc in the drive, please follow the procedure found at http://www.securom.com/support_enduser.asp?t=1 and submit the resulting AnalysisLog.sr0 file to support@securom.com.
