How do I test my sound card and video card for DirectX compatibility?
Steps for testing your sound and video card for DirectX compatibility can be found here.
Low-end Graphics Card Issues
When using a low-end graphics card, you may experience the following issues when playing the game:
- Performance may be slow in some areas.
- You may see flickering graphics.
- Textures may be missing or they may display incorrectly.
- You may experience poor performance or lock ups after selecting any Screen Resolution above 1024x768. If this occurs, we recommend that you select a lower resolution.
Can I move the program folder after installing the game?
If you wish to move the the game to a new folder, we recommend that you uninstall first, then reinstall to the new location. When uninstalling, make sure to choose Yes when prompted to keep your user profile so you do not lose your progress. Simply moving the folder will cause the uninstaller to be unable to find the program and you will need to manually uninstall the game.
Does the game support Windows XP 64-bit?
The 64-bit version of Windows XP is not supported.
Configuration
Does STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II support any Force Feedback?
Jedi Knight does not support the force feedback features of any force feedback joysticks, nor is any update planned to provide force feedback support with the game, but it should work fine as a standard Precision Pro joystick in the game.
How can I improve multiplayer game performance?
Try the following to improve the performance of online multiplayer games: 1. Make sure the host is the fastest computer participating in the game. During network play, it is recommended that the host computer be equal to the recommended CPU speed. The faster the Host computer, the better overall game performance will be. 2. All players should play with a good frame rate. All players in a multiplayer game should make sure to adjust their display resolution so that they have a smooth frame rate. Due to the method used in the game's networking, a slow or choppy frame rate on one computer can affect the overall multiplayer game performance, especially if it's the host. 3. More memory improves performance. The more RAM the Host machine has, the better performance and stability for the players in the game. 4. Limit the number of players. The number of players in the game can greatly affect performance, particularly for low-end systems. Setting the maximum number of players in the game to a lower number may improve performance. Low-end system players may have better performance joining smaller games, particularly over the Internet.
How do I use and configure the FP Gaming Assassin 3D or Logitech Wingman Warrior with Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II?
Setting up a configuration: From within game, press Esc, then click Setup, or from the player select screen, click Setup. Click Controls, then click Options, then click Load Configuration. Select your input device from the list. For example, Logitech Wingman Warrior, then click OK. If you wish to create a custom configuration for either of these devices: From within game, press Esc, then click Setup, or from the player select screen, click Setup. Click Controls, then click Options, then click Load Configuration. Select your input device from the list. For example, Logitech Wingman Warrior, then click OK. Click Save Configuration, then enter the name of the new configuration set. Click Joystick, you should now see a list of settings, most of which you may modify to your taste. If you are using the Logitech Wingman Warrior, do not highlight Joy 1 R Axis. If you are using the FP Gaming Assassin, do not highlight Joy 1 U Axis or Joy 1 V Axis. If you accidentally highlight one of these axis, the internal sensitivity settings get destroyed and you must follow these steps: From within the Joystick configuration screen, click Cancel. Click Options, then click Load Configuration. Select your custom configuration from the list and start over.
I am getting a message when starting Dark Forces II, "Please Insert The Jedi CD".
If you are receiving this message, the problem may be due to the fact that the game was installed to the same directory as a copy of the Jedi Knight Demo. If you have done this, you will need to completely uninstall the game, then completely uninstall the Jedi Knight demo. After all information related to the demo and full version of the game has been removed from your system, reinstall the game and it should work fine.
If you installed the game to a directory on your system that did not contain the demo, and you are still receiving this problem, you should make sure that you are using the 32-bit drivers for your CD-ROM drive, and that you are not running any other programs (such as FlexiCD) while playing Jedi Knight.
Is it possible to adjust volume control in the game using my keyboard or 3rd-party volume control program?
Some sound card and/or PC manufacturers may have proprietary software that must be adjusted separately from the Windows Volume Control, and some of the newer keyboards in the market allow you to adjust your Volume control directly on your keyboard. Please consult your hardware documentation or contact the appropriate manufacturer for further information.
Joystick Button Assignments
Unfortunately, Jedi Knight has an 8-button joystick limit (plus hat support). You can assign controls for up to 8 buttons total in the game. The Sidewinder 3D Pro has 8 buttons (not including the hat), so the game recognizes these first, leaving the 3 buttons on the Assassin unrecognized. However, try loading the Assassin CTL file (see the game's Troubleshooting Guide, which can be accessed from the Launcher Menu, for information on loading the Jedi Knight settings file for the Assassin in the game), and then you should be able to get control of the trackball on the Assassin when playing Jedi Knight. The only solution to getting the buttons on the Assassin to work in the game with a joystick connected would be to get a 4-button joystick (with a hat or without one) to replace the Sidewinder in this configuration. Another alternative might be to try setting up the Sidewinder 3D Pro up as a standard "2-axis, 4-button joystick" in the Game Controller Control Panel before launching Jedi Knight to see if this allows you to use the buttons on the Assassin in the game. I'm sorry, but at this time, no updates are planned to provide further support for this controller configuration, but you might want to check back with us in the near future regarding any updates that may allow support for more than 8 joystick buttons in the game.
Restoring Deleted Control Configuration Files
If you delete one of the control configurations in the game, you can copy the configuration file from the Jedi Knight CD. To do this:
- Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Right-click on Jedi Knight CD icon.
- Choose Open.
- Double-click on the Gamedata folder.
- Double-click on the Controls folder.
- Right-click on the name of the Joystick controller that you deleted.
- Choose Copy. You are now ready to copy this back to the Controls folder in the Jedi Knight directory where you installed the game on your computer. If you chose to install to the default location, this will be C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Jedi Knight\Controls.
- Go to the Jedi Knight directory and Paste the controller file into the Controls folder.
Using Input Devices With The Game
If you are having problems with control in the game, such as inability to control the game with your joystick, keyboard, or mouse, please check the following: Joystick control may be disabled in the game. The default configuration is with the joystick disabled. If you wish to use a joystick in the game, you must enable it in the Joystick Setup screen. Go to Setup, choose Controls, then Joystick and click in the checkbox next to Disable Joystick to allow the game to see your joystick. Your joystick may not be calibrated. Please exit the game and calibrate your joystick. You can go to Calibrate Joystick by selecting it from the game's launcher menu. Your joystick may not be properly centered. Your trim controls may be out of alignment.
