How do I plant a mine in STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic?

You will not be able to open that door, until you start the "missing Selkath" sidequest. Talk to a Selkath named Shaelas in the Merc enclave, when you go back through the base, you'll see a Selkath open the door.

Performance issues when running the program on low-end systems.

I am getting a message, "Out of Virtual Memory" when running the program in Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
When playing the game on a 256MB system with Windows 2000 or XP, you may see an Out of Virtual Memory Error while playing or when exiting this game. This occurs in part because of the higher memory requirements for Windows 2000 and XP. If this occurs, we recommend that you exit the game and reboot your computer to clear the memory before playing again. If the problem persists, you may want to adjust your Page file settings to allow Windows to start the game with more virtual memory. Consult Windows Help for information on how to modify your Page file settings.
I Cannot Launch STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic. What Do I Do now?
- Check to see how much room is available on your hard drive to make sure that you have enough free space for STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic to run. It is recommended that you have at least 200 MB of free space after installing the game for the Windows swap/page file and save games.
- Check to see if you have any other applications running, such as memory managers, screen savers, or virus protection programs. Please refer to 'Should I have Other Programs Running in the Background' in this section Performance / Lock-ups> for more information.
- Check to see that you have the latest video drivers available for your graphics card. Failure in launching the game may occur because of driver incompatibilities. This information can be located in the Video> section under 'Currently Supported Cards and Chipsets'. Check the DirectX> section in this Online Troubleshooting Guide for directions on how to find out if DirectX supports your computer hardware.
- Check the STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic CD to see if it is dirty or scratched. The CD-ROM drive may be having trouble reading the CD.
- You may have a corrupted installation. Try uninstalling, then reinstalling STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic.
I had a problem during the installation of Knights of the Old Republic, and now cannot reinstall the game.
When installation of the game fails, you may need to manually remove some InstallShield files before attempting to reinstall the game.
- Open the My Computer window, go to VIEW on the menu bar (in Win9x) or go to Tools (Windows 2000/XP), and select Folder Options.
- Select the View tab, and click on the option to Show All Files.
- Open the C drive, then open the Program Files folder, and open the InstallShield Installation Information folder.
- Within this folder there is a folder called {2A9A40C7-6670-4D5F-8F41-D12E2E08B48B}
- Right-click this folder and choose to delete it from your harddrive. (Note: Other folders may have similar names, so make sure that you properly identify the correct folder before you delete it.)
After doing this, place Disc One of the game in the drive (and exit the launcher menu if it comes up). Open the My Computer Window once more, then right-click the CD-ROM icon and choose Open. Then double-click the setup.exe file here and attempt to install the game once more.
I installed the program, but the shortcut did not appear on the desktop.
The shortcut to STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic may not appear on your desktop after installing the game if multiple users use one computer and the system is configured with each person having a separate profile. If your system is configured this way and you choose to create a shortcut to the game during installation, it may not appear on your desktop. If this occurs, just go to the Windows Desktop folder and copy the shortcut to your current desktop or copy the shortcut from the Start Menu to your desktop.
I get to a point in the game where it exits me out to the main menu or the game locks or crashes. (For example, when entering a new location).
This usually occurs when the specific save being loaded has been corrupted. The following workaround has been found to correct the issue:
- Uninstall the game (say yes to keeping your saved games)
- Reinstall the game to a different folder than the default
- Move your saved games over.
- Load up a save from BEFORE the point in the game where the problem occurs, (such as entering a new area), go to a different location, then save the game(make sure to save to a new slot, don't save over the loaded game).
- Now load that new save, and go to the location exhibiting the issue.
My saved game is not loading.
It is possible that your save game file is corrupt. I generally suggest making fairly frequent saves and alternate save game slots. This way, if one save game file goes bad, you can use one of your other recently saved games. Please try loading a different save game from an earlier point to see if this resolves the issue. If you have used any cheats then it may affect your save game.
Should I disable the Windows Power Management feature while playing the game?
You may want to disable it. Please consult your computer's documentation or the manufacturer for assistance in doing this.
The game is crashing after I select 1280x960 or a higher display mode.
The game may crash to the desktop or display an error message when you attempt to start a game after changing display modes in the setup screen. This occurs if your monitor or its driver does not support the display setting you selected. If this occurs, we recommend that you select the Configure option from the STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic and select a lower resolution and refresh rate. You may need to select the correct driver for your monitor or set your monitor to Plug and Play to select higher display modes.
The movies that play are not centered.
Movies play at 640x480. If you are experiencing movies playing off center, your monitor may not be properly aligned for a 640x480 display. Please adjust your monitor alignment while a movie is playing to resolve this issue.
What is the Soft Shadows feature?
Soft Shadows are an effect for high-end video cards. Enabling Shadows may adversely affect your framerate if your video card does not have the power to render them. If you are experiencing low framerates with Soft Shadows on, please disable them.
When I Alt+Tab or task switch out of the program, I get a black or gray screen or the program does not function properly or crashes.
Alt-Tabbing out of graphically intense or DirectX-based games is not recommended. Do NOT Alt-Tab out of a DirectX -based game or application.
When I try to start the game, I get a message, "Conflict with Disc Emulation Software detected. See www.securom.com/emulation for more details" or "Wrong Volume in drive"
This error occurs when there is a conflict with the copy protection for the program and some disk emulation software installed and active on your system. You should temporarily disable any CD drive emulation software.(Alcohol 120%, CloneCD, Nero) The program will not run with emulation software running. Please turn off any emulation software (unmount any virtual drives) and restart the system, then run the program.
More detail on this can be found at the website mentioned in the error message.
If you would like to find out what there is on your computer that keeps the copy-protected application from starting although there is an original disc in the drive, please follow the procedure at http://www.securom.com/support_enduser.asp and submit the resulting AnalysisLog.sr0 file to support@securom.com.
Disclaimer:
The ability to generate the analysis file has been developed with your personal interest in mind to check for possible hardware and/or software incompatibility on your PC. To shorten the analysis time, system information is collected (similar to the Microsoft's msinfo32.exe program). Data will be compared with the SecuROM knowledge base to determine hardware and/or software conflicts. Submitting the analysis file is totally voluntary. The collected data is for evaluation purposes only and is not used in any other manner.
When I try to update my game in the Best of PC package, I get an error that it cannot find the file.
All of the games in the Best of PC package are already patched with the currently available patches, which is why you're getting the error message (the patch is looking for a file that is unpatched).
Why Can't I Get the Launcher to Respond?
- The Knights of the Old Republic CD may have been removed.
- Your CD-ROM drive may have stopped responding.
- There may be a hardware conflict in your system.
- The Knights of the Old Republic CD may be scratched or dirty.
- Your computer may not be 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible.
Why is there no sound in the game's launcher?
The game's Launcher may occasionally have no sound. When this happens, it usually affects the rest of the game. Windows may still be using your sound card from the last application you were running. Rebooting the computer should correct this. If rebooting does not correct this, your sound card may not be set up correctly in Windows. Please check the rest of this section to see how to check and see if your sound card is working correctly.
